Fixed-scope dashboard builds
One agreed dashboard at one agreed price, delivered end to end — sources connected, model built, visuals designed, refresh scheduled, and the whole thing handed over documented rather than described.
Power BI consultant · Atlanta, the Perimeter & North Georgia
Loads, transactions, productions or patients are counted in one system; the ledger that books the money sits in another; and the number leadership actually reads is a workbook somebody rebuilds every Monday in Buckhead, Midtown, Alpharetta or a Gwinnett back office. We are the senior, US-based team metro Atlanta operators call when those three finally have to agree inside one governed model.
Buy it as a fixed-scope dashboard build from $2,500, or as prepaid hours that never expire and start at $100 — against the roughly $150 to $300 an hour quoted on competing Atlanta consultancy pages. Eastern-time delivery, no retainer, no paid discovery phase. See Flex pricing.
Representative dashboard — sample data
Remote-first, senior, no lock-in
Metro Atlanta is not one buyer, it is five. A freight broker or third-party logistics operator working the cargo ramps at Hartsfield-Jackson counts loads, lanes and carrier settlements in a transportation management system. A payments company along the corridor from Sandy Springs to Alpharetta counts authorizations, settled volume and residuals in a processing platform. A production accounting team on a stage in Fayette or Douglasville counts purchase orders, crew timecards and hot costs against an approved budget. A health system counts encounters, throughput and denials. A poultry or food manufacturer up toward Gainesville counts yield, giveaway and cost per pound. Different vocabulary, identical problem: the operating system knows what happened, the general ledger knows what it cost, and nobody has modeled the join between them.
That join is the work, which is why an engagement here usually opens with definitions rather than visuals. Before anyone launches Power BI Desktop, somebody has to decide whether a load belongs to the month it was picked up or the month it was invoiced, whether an accessorial charge sits with linehaul margin or outside it, whether a transaction counts when it authorizes or when it settles, and whether a case belongs to the site that scheduled it or the site that performed it. Get that wrong and every visual stacked on top is confidently incorrect — which is the exact condition most of the reports we are asked to rescue arrive in.
We book Eastern-time hours for Atlanta clients, and that is the practical reason this arrangement suits teams here. A build that needs six or seven short conversations to settle grain and definitions becomes a three-week calendar problem when your vendor replies on a West Coast afternoon. On Eastern time it stays a three-day engineering problem, and the review call lands inside your working day rather than at the edge of it.
Where we start
Most start one of three ways: a single fixed-scope dashboard that settles an argument the leadership meeting keeps having, a health check on an inherited Power BI estate nobody trusts, or a block of prepaid hours aimed at a reporting backlog that has been sitting since the last budget cycle.
What’s included
Take one piece or the whole program. Every task is scoped in hours and approved before it starts — as a fixed-scope build or against a prepaid Flex block.
One agreed dashboard at one agreed price, delivered end to end — sources connected, model built, visuals designed, refresh scheduled, and the whole thing handed over documented rather than described.
A star-schema model with one definition per metric, so margin per load, settled volume and cost per pound mean the same thing in the board pack as they do on the dispatch board or the plant floor.
Scheduled refresh timed to an Eastern-time morning, gateway configuration documented, and failure alerts routed to a named person rather than discovered live in an operations or revenue meeting.
Workspace structure, dataset certification and row-level security so a terminal manager, a portfolio owner or a clinic administrator sees only their slice while leadership still reads the consolidated view.
A structured review of workspaces, models, refresh reliability, security and licensing, returned as risk-ranked findings and a remediation plan your team can work down over a quarter.
Recorded walkthroughs, documented measures and named owners, so the analyst who runs this report every week can change it without waiting on us or on anyone else’s calendar.
How it works
Thirty minutes on Eastern time. You describe the decision the report has to support and which systems hold the data; we ask the questions that decide whether this is a two-day job or a two-week one. Nothing is billed for this.
You get a written scope with a fixed hour count and price before anything starts. Approve it and work begins; walk away and you have spent nothing. Hours are only ever deducted against work you approved.
We build inside your tenant, review it with you on a screen share, then hand over the model, the report, the documentation and a recorded walkthrough. Most focused tasks land in three to five business days.
They are operational long before they are financial. A freight broker wants margin per load by lane and carrier next to on-time pickup, because a lane that looks busy can be quietly losing money once accessorials and detention are counted. A payments company wants settled volume, attrition and residuals by portfolio, since a merchant that has stopped processing looks identical to a healthy one on a boarding report. A production accountant wants hot costs against the approved budget while the shoot is still running, not at wrap. A health system wants denials and days in accounts receivable by payer and site, on a cadence that matches the revenue-cycle meeting. A poultry or food plant wants yield and cost per pound at actual, because a quoted margin and a realized one are separated by giveaway and rework nobody reconciles until the period closes.
Five sectors, one shared shape. The table below is the map we start from on an Atlanta scoping call — the recurring question, the systems that hold the answer, and the first dashboard we would usually build.
| Atlanta-area sector | The question leadership keeps asking | Where the data usually lives | Typical first dashboard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freight brokers & 3PLs | Which lanes and carriers actually earn margin once accessorials and detention are counted? | Transportation and warehouse management systems, EDI status and invoice feeds, carrier settlement records, the accounting ledger | Margin per load by lane, customer and carrier, with on-time pickup and delivery, dwell and accessorial leakage |
| Payments & fintech | Which merchant portfolios are growing, and where is attrition starting before anyone reports it? | Processing and gateway platforms, settlement and interchange files, boarding and underwriting systems, residual schedules | Settled volume and transaction count by portfolio, with merchant attrition, chargeback rates and residual earnings |
| Film & television production | Where is this production against budget while there is still time to act on it? | Production accounting software, purchase order and petty cash logs, crew timecards, vendor invoices, the corporate ledger | Cost report by account against approved budget, with hot costs, open commitments and estimate to complete |
| Health systems & provider groups | Are sites meeting throughput targets and getting paid on the schedule we planned for? | EHR and practice-management extracts, scheduling systems, payer remittance files, the finance system | Days in A/R and denial rate by payer, alongside throughput, no-show rate and service-line contribution by site |
| Poultry & food manufacturing | What does a pound actually cost us once yield, giveaway and rework are counted? | ERP and plant systems, grading and scale data, live-haul and inbound records, labor and maintenance systems | Yield and cost per pound by plant and shift, with giveaway, downtime and order fill rate by customer |
If your sector is on that list, the industry pages go deeper on the metrics themselves — manufacturing and logistics dashboards, Power BI for healthcare, and finance and FP&A reporting — and freight forwarders running on a single platform can start from our CargoWise Power BI dashboard page. This page is about how the work is delivered to a team on Eastern time.
The Atlanta consultancies that publish a rate at all land roughly between $150 and $300 an hour, and the rest quote only after a discovery call. Those are real prices for real senior work, and on a large multi-workstream program they are often the right ones to pay. They are also the reason a single dashboard frequently never gets built: the request needs a budget line, the budget line needs a number, and the number arrives three meetings later.
| Option | How the price is set | What you commit to | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Atlanta or national consultancy | Roughly $150–$300 per hour where published; otherwise quoted after discovery as a project statement of work | A scoped statement of work, often with a retainer or a phased program attached | Large multi-workstream programs that genuinely need a team, a project manager and an account layer |
| Contract developer via a job board | An advertised hourly wage, before the recruiter’s margin | Onboarding, supervision and your own senior review time on top of the advertised rate | Long-running staffing gaps where you supply the design direction and the code review |
| Full-time analyst hire | Salary plus benefits, tooling and ramp-up time | Months of hiring, then permanent headcount whether the backlog is full or empty | Steady, high-volume internal reporting demand that justifies a permanent seat |
| Prepaid Flex block (this practice) | $2,500 / $4,600 / $8,000 prepaid and published, from $100 per hour on the largest block | Nothing beyond the block — no retainer, no project minimum, and hours never expire | A first dashboard, a rescue, or a backlog you want cleared by one named senior engineer |
Two honest caveats. Published rates move, so check a competitor’s current page rather than taking our summary of this market as fixed. And an advertised contract wage is not a comparable price — it excludes the recruiter’s margin, the benefits load and the senior design judgment you would still have to supply yourself. What a Power BI consultant costs per hour breaks the whole rate spectrum down, and our Power BI consulting service covers the strategy, governance and rollout side nationally.
Two ways to buy, same engineer. A single dashboard can be quoted as a fixed-scope build: we scope it after the free 30-minute call, quote an hour count and a price, and that is what you pay. For ongoing work, prepaid Flex blocks are cheaper per hour and far more flexible — you bank hours, send tasks as they come up, and each one is scoped and approved before it draws down. Hours never expire, which matters in a business whose volume moves with freight cycles, a processing calendar or a production slate, because the block you buy in a quiet month is still there when the next season starts.
| Flex block | Prepaid hours | Price (USD) | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 20 hours | $2,500 | A first fixed-scope dashboard, a health check, or a targeted fix |
| Growth | 40 hours | $4,600 | An ongoing backlog across several reports |
| Power | 80 hours | $8,000 | A multi-report rollout at our lowest hourly rate, from $100/hour |
If what you need is capacity rather than advice, hire a Power BI developer by the hour describes engaging one named senior engineer against your own backlog. Teams comparing metros can read how the same engagement runs for our nearest Southeast neighbour on the Power BI consultant Charlotte page, for South Florida trade, real estate and hospitality teams on the Power BI consultant Miami page, or on Central time on the Power BI consultant Chicago page, and the full mechanics — scoping, hour logging, what happens when a block runs low — are on how it works and pricing.
Access design comes up early in Atlanta, because so much of the data here is either regulated or commercially sensitive. Cardholder and merchant detail sits inside a payment company’s compliance perimeter. Clinical and revenue-cycle reporting touches protected health information. A broker’s customer rate confirmations and carrier buy rates are exactly what a departing salesperson should not be able to export. Unreleased production budgets are confidential to the studio, not just to the company. In each case we design to the minimum necessary, put row-level security in Power BI (opens in new tab) around the rest, and write the access decisions down so somebody can answer for them at the next audit.
Everything is built inside your own tenant, under your existing agreements and controls, so the data never moves to us. What we will not do is make the compliance determination for you — whether a given dataset can be reported on, and by whom, stays with your team and your assessors. We build to the rule you set, and we would much rather design that once at the start than retrofit it after a report has already been shared with sixty people.
Nearly every report we are asked to rescue is slow and distrusted for the same reason: the wrong grain was chosen early, then papered over with DAX for a year. A load, a stop, a settled transaction, a timecard line and a general-ledger posting are five different grains, and a model that blends them without a proper fact-and-dimension split produces numbers that are subtly wrong in ways nobody can trace. We design against Microsoft’s star schema guidance (opens in new tab), and it is a fair thing to ask any consultant you are evaluating about — us included.
Where the sources sit behind an on-premises TMS, an ERP or a plant database, the refresh path matters as much as the model. We document on-premises data gateway (opens in new tab) configuration and set scheduled refresh (opens in new tab) windows so the report is finished before the first Eastern-time meeting rather than halfway through it. Our data modeling and DAX work covers that craft in detail. When you are ready, send us the task and we will scope it.
Flex hours
Starter $2,500, Growth $4,600, or Power $8,000 — from $100/hour at the largest block. Senior-led, US-based, and the hours never expire.
Who it’s for
Operations and finance leads around Hartsfield-Jackson, Forest Park and the I-85 corridor who need margin per load computed once from the TMS and the ledger rather than reconciled in a workbook every week.
Portfolio, risk and finance teams from Sandy Springs and Dunwoody up to Alpharetta reporting settled volume, merchant attrition, chargeback exposure and residual earnings on one agreed set of definitions.
Production accountants and studio controllers tracking cost reports, hot costs and open commitments against approved budgets across concurrent Georgia productions, with each show visible only to its own team.
Revenue-cycle teams reporting denials, days in A/R and throughput across sites from Marietta to Gwinnett, and North Georgia plants measuring yield, giveaway and cost per pound by shift.
Representative perspective
“Operations counted a load on pickup and accounting recognised it on invoice, so every margin review opened with an argument about the denominator. One model with the definitions written down ended that.”Vice president of finance, freight brokerage
Representative perspective
“We needed settled volume and attrition by portfolio, with each portfolio owner seeing only their own merchants. The scope came back in writing with a price, and the refresh has finished before our morning review since.”Director of analytics, payments company
Or the refresh that fails overnight, or the model nobody trusts. Thirty minutes on Eastern time is usually enough to tell you what it takes — and you get that answer, and the price, whether or not you buy anything.
FAQ
No, and we would rather say so than imply a Peachtree address we do not rent. This is a US-based, remote-first practice. The work happens inside your own Power BI tenant over a screen share, booked on Eastern-time hours, and what an office would cost goes into engineering hours instead.
Yes. Scoping calls, design reviews and handovers are booked inside an Atlanta working day rather than pushed to the ends of it. It matters more than it sounds: a definition question raised after the morning operations meeting gets settled the same afternoon instead of waiting on a Pacific-time calendar.
Five, mostly: freight brokers and third-party logistics operators around Hartsfield-Jackson, payments and fintech companies reporting on authorizations and residuals, film and television production accounting teams, health systems and provider groups, and poultry and food manufacturers across North Georgia.
Because there is no office, no account manager and no sales layer between you and the engineer doing the work. Rates in that range appear on competitor pages in this market, and they buy real senior help; ours buys the same senior help without the overhead a larger firm has to recover on every invoice.
A focused first dashboard is typically three to five business days of build once access is in place, so most land well inside two weeks. What actually sets the date is access and definitions: waiting on a TMS or ledger credential is the usual delay, not the modeling, so we ask for both on the first call.
Yes, and most Atlanta engagements start there. After a free 30-minute call you get a written scope with a fixed hour count and a fixed price, and nothing starts until you approve it. A first dashboard usually fits inside the Starter block at $2,500, with no hour billed that you did not approve.
You do, completely. Everything is built in your own tenant with documented measures, no proprietary layer and no licence pointing back at us. End the engagement tomorrow and your team keeps every model, report and document, along with the notes needed to maintain them without calling us.
