Fixed-fee dashboard builds
One scoped dashboard, one agreed price, delivered end to end — sources connected, model built, visuals designed, refresh scheduled, and the whole thing handed over documented.
Power BI consultant · Denver & the Front Range
Production, program, or job data sits in one system, the ledger that books the money sits in another, and the scorecard leadership actually reads is a spreadsheet somebody rebuilds by hand every Monday. We are the senior, US-based team Front Range operators bring in when all three have to agree inside one governed model.
Buy it as a fixed-fee dashboard build from $2,500, or as prepaid hours that never expire and start at $100 — well under the $150–$199 rate bands Colorado consultancies publish. Mountain-time delivery, no retainer, no paid discovery phase. See Flex pricing.
Representative dashboard — sample data
Remote-first, senior, no lock-in
Mountain Time is an underrated advantage, and it is the reason a lot of Denver reporting projects stall. Half the vendors a Front Range company evaluates work Eastern hours, which means the review call is at seven in the morning and the answer to a question asked at three in the afternoon arrives tomorrow. The other half work Pacific hours and are not at their desks until your morning is gone. A build that needs six or seven short conversations to get the grain and the definitions right turns into a three-week calendar problem instead of a three-day engineering one.
We work Mountain-time hours for Front Range clients, which happens to be the only US zone with a real working overlap in both directions on the same day — useful when your ERP is administered in Denver, your parent company reports out of Chicago or the East Coast, and a plant or field operation is somewhere further west. Scoping calls, screen-share reviews, and handovers all sit inside your own working day.
The second thing Denver buyers notice is price. Look up Front Range Power BI firms on a buyer directory such as Clutch and you will see published rate bands in the $150 to $199 per hour range. Our hours start at $100, and a first dashboard is usually a fixed $2,500. That is not a discount on seniority — it is what is left when you remove the office, the sales layer, and the account manager who forwards your questions to the person doing the work.
Where we start
Most start one of three ways: a single fixed-fee dashboard that settles an argument leadership keeps having, a health check on a Power BI estate somebody inherited and nobody trusts, or a block of prepaid hours pointed at a reporting backlog that has been sitting since last quarter.
What’s included
Take one piece or the whole program. Every task is scoped in hours and approved before it starts — as a fixed-fee build or against a prepaid Flex block.
One scoped dashboard, one agreed price, delivered end to end — sources connected, model built, visuals designed, refresh scheduled, and the whole thing handed over documented.
A star-schema model with one definition per metric, so lease operating expense, cost-to-complete, and net revenue mean the same thing in the board pack as they do in the field review or on the job site.
Scheduled refresh that finishes on Mountain time before your first standup, gateway configuration documented, and failure alerts routed to a named person rather than discovered in a meeting.
Workspace structure, dataset certification, and row-level security so a program office, a clinic administrator, or a regional operations lead sees only its slice while leadership sees the whole.
A structured review of workspaces, models, refresh reliability, security, and licensing, delivered as risk-ranked findings with a remediation plan your team can work down over a quarter.
Recorded walkthroughs, documented measures, and named owners, so the people who run these reports every week can change them without waiting on us or on anyone’s calendar.
How it works
Thirty minutes on Mountain time. You describe the decision the report has to support and which systems hold the data; we ask the questions that decide whether this is a two-day job or a two-week one. Nothing is billed for this.
You get a written scope with a fixed hour count and price before anything starts. Approve it and work begins; walk away and you have spent nothing. Hours are only ever deducted against work you approved.
We build inside your tenant, review it with you on a screen share, then hand over the model, the report, the documentation, and a recorded walkthrough. Most focused tasks land in three to five business days.
The questions are operational before they are financial. An energy operator in the Denver-Julesburg basin wants production against plan next to lease operating expense per barrel, because a pad that looks productive can still lose money on chemicals, water hauling, and downtime. An aerospace or space-systems supplier wants milestone status and supplier quality on one page, because a single late qualified part slips a launch or a delivery that is worth far more than the part. A general contractor building out the north I-25 corridor wants cost-to-complete before the change order is argued, not after.
Five different sectors, one shared shape: the operational system knows what happened, the finance system knows what it cost, and nobody has modeled the join. That is the work. The table below is the map we start from on a Denver scoping call.
| Denver-area sector | The question leadership keeps asking | Where the data usually lives | Typical first dashboard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Energy & utilities | Which assets are actually earning once operating cost and downtime are counted? | SCADA and production historians, land and lease systems, joint-interest billing in the ERP, vendor and hauling invoices | Production against plan by pad or asset, with lease operating expense and downtime causes |
| Aerospace & space systems | Are we going to hit the program milestone, and which suppliers put it at risk? | ERP and MRP, MES and quality or NCR systems, program schedules, supplier portals | Milestone and earned-value status by program, with supplier on-time delivery and escapes |
| Healthcare & life sciences | Are clinics and studies running to budget and to the schedule we published? | EHR and practice-management extracts, study and lab systems, payer remittance files, grant ledgers | Days in A/R and denial rate by payer, or study spend against budget by milestone |
| Engineering & construction | Are jobs earning what we bid once change orders and rework land? | Project controls, ERP job cost, timesheets, subcontractor and vendor invoices | WIP, earned value, and cost-to-complete by job and phase |
| Natural foods, beverage & outdoor brands | Which SKUs, channels, and accounts make money after trade spend and freight? | ERP, distributor and retailer scan data, broker deduction reports, 3PL and freight feeds | Net revenue by SKU and channel, with trade-spend and deduction leakage |
If your sector is on that list, the industry pages go deeper on the metrics themselves — manufacturing and logistics reporting, construction job costing and WIP, and healthcare reporting in Power BI. This page is about how the work gets delivered to a team on Mountain time.
Two numbers are worth checking yourself before you talk to anyone, because they bracket the whole decision. Buyer directories publish rate bands for Colorado consultancies; job boards publish what Denver employers advertise for Power BI contract and consulting roles. They are not the same kind of number, and the gap between them is where most of the confusion about “what should this cost” comes from.
| Option | How the price is set | What you commit to | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Colorado consultancy | Published directory rate bands sit around $150–$199 per hour | A scoped SOW, often with a minimum or a monthly retainer | Large multi-workstream programs that need a team, a PM, and an account layer |
| Contract developer via a job board | Denver postings for Power BI contract and consulting roles advertise pay roughly in the $47–$71 per hour range | Recruiter margin, onboarding, and your own management time on top of the advertised pay | Long-running staffing gaps where you supply the design direction and the code review |
| Full-time analyst hire | Salary plus benefits, tooling, and ramp-up time | Months of hiring, then permanent headcount whether the backlog is full or empty | Steady, high-volume internal reporting demand that justifies a permanent seat |
| Prepaid Flex block (this practice) | $2,500 / $4,600 / $8,000 prepaid, from $100 per hour on the largest block | Nothing beyond the block — no retainer, no minimum, and hours never expire | A first dashboard, a rescue, or a backlog you want cleared by one named senior engineer |
Two honest caveats. Rate cards move and not every firm publishes one, so check the current listing rather than taking our word for it. And an advertised contract wage is not a comparable price: it excludes the recruiter’s margin, the benefits load, and the senior design judgment you would still have to supply yourself. If cost is the constraint that brought you here, affordable Power BI consulting lays that comparison out in full.
Two ways to buy, same engineer. A single dashboard can be quoted as a fixed-fee build: we scope it after the free 30-minute call, quote an hour count and a price, and that is what you pay. For ongoing work, prepaid Flex blocks are cheaper per hour and far more flexible — you bank hours, send tasks as they come up, and each one is scoped and approved before it draws down. Hours never expire, there is no retainer, and there is no project minimum.
| Flex block | Prepaid hours | Price (USD) | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 20 hours | $2,500 | A first fixed-fee dashboard, a health check, or a targeted fix |
| Growth | 40 hours | $4,600 | An ongoing backlog across several reports |
| Power | 80 hours | $8,000 | A multi-report rollout at our lowest hourly rate, from $100/hour |
If what you need is capacity rather than advice, hire a Power BI developer by the hour describes engaging one named senior engineer against your own backlog, and smaller Denver companies without an internal analyst should start at Power BI developer for small business. The full mechanics — scoping, hour logging, what happens when a block runs low — are on how it works and pricing.
Access is a design problem here more often than in most metros. Space and defense-adjacent programs along the Front Range carry contractual restrictions on who may see part numbers, drawings, schedules, and supplier terms; clinical and revenue-cycle reporting touches protected health information; and mineral, lease, and joint-interest data is commercially sensitive to the partners named in it. In every case we design to the minimum necessary, put row-level security in Power BI (opens in new tab) around the rest, and write the access decisions down for whoever has to answer your compliance or program office.
Everything is built inside your own tenant, under your existing agreements and controls, so the data never moves to us. What we do not do is make the compliance determination for you — whether a given program or dataset can be reported on, and by whom, stays with your team. We build to the rule you set, and we would rather design that once at the start than retrofit it after a report has already been shared with forty people.
Most of the reports we are asked to rescue are slow and untrusted for one reason: the wrong grain, chosen early, then papered over with DAX for a year. A daily production reading, an invoice line, a purchase-order receipt, and a cost-code transaction are four different grains, and a model that blends them without a proper fact-and-dimension split produces numbers that are subtly wrong in ways nobody can trace. We design against Microsoft’s star schema guidance (opens in new tab), and it is a fair thing to ask any consultant you are evaluating about — including us.
Where the source systems sit behind a field network or an on-premises ERP, the refresh path matters as much as the model. We document on-premises data gateway (opens in new tab) configuration and refresh windows so the report is finished before the first morning meeting, not halfway through it. Our data modeling and DAX work covers that craft in detail, and Power BI dashboard development covers the build itself. When you are ready, send us the task and we will scope it.
Flex hours
Starter $2,500, Growth $4,600, or Power $8,000 — from $100/hour at the largest block. Senior-led, US-based, and the hours never expire.
Who it’s for
Finance and operations leads who need production, downtime, and lease operating expense computed once, from the historian and the ledger, rather than reconciled in a spreadsheet every month.
Suppliers and integrators along the Front Range tracking program milestones, supplier on-time delivery, scrap and rework against the contracts that pay for them.
Clinical, research, and revenue-cycle teams reporting throughput, denial rates, and study spend to funders, boards, and their own operations review.
Contractors reporting WIP and cost-to-complete on Front Range projects, and natural-foods, beverage, and outdoor brands measuring channel margin after trade spend and freight.
Representative perspective
“Operations counted downtime one way and accounting allocated the cost another, so every asset review started with a reconciliation. One model with the definitions written down ended that argument.”Finance director, mid-market energy operator
Representative perspective
“We wanted milestone status and supplier quality on one page, with program data locked down by role from day one. The scope came back in writing and the refresh has finished before our morning stand-up since.”Program manager, aerospace component supplier
Bring the report that keeps getting rebuilt by hand, the refresh that fails overnight, or the model nobody trusts. Thirty minutes on Mountain time is usually enough to tell you what it takes — and you get that answer whether or not you buy anything.
FAQ
No, and we would rather say so than imply an address we do not keep. We are a US-based, remote-first practice that works Mountain-time hours for Front Range clients. The build happens inside your own Power BI tenant over a screen share, so a LoDo suite would show up in your rate and nowhere else.
Yes, and it is the practical reason Denver teams like this arrangement. We hold scoping calls, reviews, and handovers on Mountain-time hours, so a question asked at nine in the morning gets answered the same morning rather than after a coastal team wakes up or after one has already gone home.
Five, mostly: energy and utility operators reporting production against lease operating expense; aerospace and space-systems suppliers tracking program milestones and supplier quality; healthcare and life sciences groups watching revenue cycle and study spend; engineering and construction firms reporting WIP and cost-to-complete; and natural-foods, beverage, and outdoor brands measuring channel margin after trade spend.
Because you are not paying for the parts of an agency that never touch your model. There is no downtown office, no account manager relaying your questions, and no bench to keep busy between projects. One senior US-based engineer scopes the work and builds it, and hours are prepaid in blocks that start at $100 per hour.
Yes. After a free 30-minute scoping call we send a written scope with a fixed hour count and a fixed price, and nothing starts until you approve it. A first dashboard usually fits inside the Starter block at $2,500. You are never billed for work you did not approve in advance.
Hours are prepaid in three Flex blocks: Starter 20 hours at $2,500, Growth 40 hours at $4,600, and Power 80 hours at $8,000, which is our lowest rate at $100 per hour. Hours never expire, there is no retainer, and every task is scoped and approved before it draws down.
You do, completely. Everything is built in your own Power BI tenant with documented measures, no proprietary layer, and no license tied back to us. If you stop working with us tomorrow, your team keeps every model, report, and document, and can maintain them without us.
