Fixed-scope dashboard builds
One agreed dashboard at one agreed price, delivered end to end — sources connected, model built, visuals designed, refresh scheduled, and the whole thing handed over documented rather than described.
Power BI consultant · Miami-Dade, Broward & South Florida
Shipments, leases, room nights or patient encounters are counted in one system; the ledger that books the money sits in another; and half the time one of them is denominated in a currency the other never sees. We are the senior, US-based team South Florida operators call when those have to agree inside one governed model — from Brickell and downtown out to Doral, Medley, Coral Gables, Miami Beach, Aventura and up through Broward.
Buy it as a fixed-scope dashboard build from $2,500, or as prepaid hours that never expire and start at $100 — a published number, on a search where almost every competing page asks you to request a quote first. Eastern-time delivery that overlaps both the US and Latin American day, no retainer, no paid discovery phase. See Flex pricing.
Representative dashboard — sample data
Remote-first, senior, no lock-in
Most metros give a Power BI practice one hard problem to solve. South Florida gives it two more on top. The first is currency and entity structure: a freight forwarder bills in dollars but settles with overseas agents in something else, a holding company consolidates a Colombian or Brazilian operating entity, a family office reports to partners across three jurisdictions. The second is the calendar. Demand here is seasonal and the season is sharp — a hotel’s January and its August are different businesses, and a distributor’s Q1 and Q3 are too — so a year-over-year comparison built without a proper date table and a stated fiscal convention will mislead every quarter.
Put either one on top of the usual join problem and the reporting stops being trusted. The operating system knows what happened, the general ledger knows what it cost, and nobody has modeled the relationship between them — let alone decided which exchange rate applies to which account, or whether last January is a fair comparison for this one. That is the work. It is why an engagement here opens with definitions instead of visuals, and why a scoping call spends more time on the fiscal calendar and the rate policy than on chart types.
We are remote-first and we book Eastern-time hours, which in Miami has a second benefit that is not true in most markets. Colombia and Peru keep roughly the same clock as Miami year-round; Brazil and Argentina run one to two hours ahead. An Eastern-time working day therefore overlaps both your Miami office and the regional controller whose numbers you are consolidating, so a definition question gets settled in one day instead of ping-ponging across a week.
Where we start
Most start one of three ways: a single fixed-scope dashboard that settles an argument the leadership meeting keeps having, a health check on an inherited Power BI estate nobody trusts, or a block of prepaid hours aimed at a reporting backlog that has been sitting since the last season ended.
What’s included
Take one piece or the whole program. Every task is scoped in hours and approved before it starts — as a fixed-scope build or against a prepaid Flex block.
One agreed dashboard at one agreed price, delivered end to end — sources connected, model built, visuals designed, refresh scheduled, and the whole thing handed over documented rather than described.
A star-schema model with one definition per metric, so margin per shipment, net operating income and revenue per available room mean the same thing in the investor pack as they do on the operations report.
An explicit exchange-rate policy in the model — average or closing rate by account, one reporting currency for the group, local currency preserved underneath — instead of a translation tab somebody maintains by hand.
A real date dimension, a stated fiscal calendar and same-period-last-year measures that survive a peak season, so a soft August does not read as a collapse and a strong January does not read as a trend.
Workspace structure, dataset certification and row-level security so a property manager, a branch controller or an outside investor sees only their slice while the group still reads the consolidated view.
Recorded walkthroughs, documented measures and named owners, so the analyst who runs this report every week can change it without waiting on us or on anyone else’s calendar.
How it works
Thirty minutes on Eastern time. You describe the decision the report has to support and which systems hold the data; we ask the questions that decide whether this is a two-day job or a two-week one. Nothing is billed for this.
You get a written scope with a fixed hour count and price before anything starts. Approve it and work begins; walk away and you have spent nothing. Hours are only ever deducted against work you approved.
We build inside your tenant, review it with you on a screen share, then hand over the model, the report, the documentation and a recorded walkthrough. Most focused tasks land in three to five business days.
The requests arrive operational, not financial. A freight forwarder or customs broker wants margin per shipment by trade lane and agent next to transit and clearance time, because an air lane out of Miami International Airport that looks busy can be losing money once agent settlements and demurrage are counted. A commercial or multifamily owner wants net operating income and occupancy per property against budget, with the leasing pipeline beside it. A hotel wants revenue per available room and gross operating profit per available room against last season, not last month. A cross-border finance team wants one consolidated statement in dollars with each subsidiary still readable in its own currency. A provider group wants denials and days in accounts receivable by payer and location, on the cadence of the revenue-cycle meeting.
Five sectors, one shared shape. The table below is the map we start from on a South Florida scoping call — the recurring question, the systems that hold the answer, and the first dashboard we would usually build.
| Miami-area sector | The question leadership keeps asking | Where the data usually lives | Typical first dashboard |
|---|---|---|---|
| Freight forwarding, customs brokerage & NVOCCs | Which trade lanes and overseas agents actually earn margin once settlements and detention are counted? | Forwarding and customs systems, carrier and airline rate sheets, agent settlement statements, the accounting ledger | Margin per shipment by lane, customer and agent, with transit time, clearance delays and accessorial leakage |
| Commercial & multifamily real estate | What is net operating income by property against budget, and what does the leasing pipeline do to it? | Property-accounting and asset-management platforms, rent rolls and lease abstracts, construction draws, the corporate ledger | NOI and occupancy by property and portfolio, with rent roll, renewal exposure and budget variance by line |
| Hotels, resorts & hospitality groups | How is this season performing against the same season last year, by segment and channel? | Property-management systems, channel managers and booking engines, food-and-beverage point of sale, the finance system | RevPAR, ADR and GOPPAR by property against the prior season, with segment mix, channel cost and pickup pace |
| Cross-border & trade finance | What does the group look like in one currency without losing each entity’s own books? | Multiple ERP or accounting instances by entity, treasury and FX rate sources, intercompany schedules, consolidation workbooks | Consolidated profit and loss in the reporting currency, with entity drill-down, FX translation effect and intercompany elimination |
| Provider groups & health systems | Are locations getting paid on the schedule we planned for, and which payers are slipping? | EHR and practice-management extracts, scheduling systems, payer remittance files, the finance system | Days in A/R and denial rate by payer and location, alongside throughput, no-show rate and service-line contribution |
If your sector is on that list, the industry pages go deeper on the metrics themselves — Power BI for real estate covers NOI, occupancy and investor reporting, hotel and resort dashboards cover RevPAR, ADR and GOPPAR, and Power BI for healthcare covers revenue-cycle and throughput reporting. This page is about how that work is delivered to a South Florida team on Eastern time, with the currency and seasonality questions taken seriously.
Search for a Power BI consultancy in this market and the pattern is hard to miss: the pages that rank lead with a quote request rather than a number. That is a legitimate way to sell a large program, and on a genuine multi-workstream engagement a scoped statement of work is the right instrument. It is also why single dashboards so often never get built here. The request needs a budget line, the budget line needs a number, and the number arrives three meetings later — by which point the season has moved on.
So we publish ours. Two honest caveats before the table: we are not comparing ourselves to any named local firm, and we are not going to invent a Miami market rate we cannot verify. What we can state is what each way of buying commits you to.
| Option | How the price is set | What you commit to | Where it fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Regional or national consultancy | Usually quoted only after a discovery call, as a project statement of work; a published hourly rate is the exception | A scoped statement of work, often with a retainer or a phased program attached | Large multi-workstream programs that genuinely need a team, a project manager and an account layer |
| Contract developer via a job board | An advertised hourly wage, before the recruiter’s margin | Onboarding, supervision and your own senior review time on top of the advertised rate | Long-running staffing gaps where you supply the design direction and the code review |
| Full-time analyst hire | Salary plus benefits, tooling and ramp-up time | Months of hiring, then permanent headcount whether the backlog is full or empty | Steady, high-volume internal reporting demand that justifies a permanent seat |
| Prepaid Flex block (this practice) | $2,500 / $4,600 / $8,000 prepaid and published, from $100 per hour on the largest block | Nothing beyond the block — no retainer, no project minimum, and hours never expire | A first dashboard, a rescue, or a backlog you want cleared by one named senior engineer |
An advertised contract wage, incidentally, is not a comparable price — it excludes the recruiter’s margin, the benefits load and the senior design judgment you would still have to supply yourself. What a Power BI consultant costs per hour breaks the whole rate spectrum down, and our Power BI consulting service covers the strategy, governance and rollout side nationally.
Two ways to buy, same engineer. A single dashboard can be quoted as a fixed-scope build: we scope it after the free 30-minute call, quote an hour count and a price, and that is what you pay. For ongoing work, prepaid Flex blocks are cheaper per hour and far more flexible — you bank hours, send tasks as they come up, and each one is scoped and approved before it draws down. Hours never expire, which matters more here than in a flat-demand metro: the block you buy during a quiet summer is still there when the season, the shipping peak or the next closing lands.
| Flex block | Prepaid hours | Price (USD) | Typical fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | 20 hours | $2,500 | A first fixed-scope dashboard, a health check, or a targeted fix |
| Growth | 40 hours | $4,600 | An ongoing backlog across several reports |
| Power | 80 hours | $8,000 | A multi-report rollout at our lowest hourly rate, from $100/hour |
If what you need is capacity rather than advice, hire a Power BI developer by the hour describes engaging one named senior engineer against your own backlog. Teams comparing metros can see how the same Eastern-time engagement reads for the other Southeast pages — Power BI consultant Atlanta, weighted to freight brokerage, payments and health systems, and Power BI consultant Charlotte, weighted to banking and precision manufacturing — or, for the other big US trade gateway, Power BI consultant Houston on Central time. The full mechanics of scoping, hour logging and what happens when a block runs low are on how it works and pricing.
Access design comes up early here, because so much South Florida data is either regulated or commercially sensitive. Outside investors in a single-asset entity should see that asset and nothing else. A forwarder’s customer rate agreements and agent buy rates are exactly what a departing salesperson should not be able to export. Clinical and revenue-cycle reporting touches protected health information. Cross-border entity detail can carry obligations in more than one jurisdiction. In each case we design to the minimum necessary, put row-level security in Power BI (opens in new tab) around the rest, and write the access decisions down so somebody can answer for them at the next audit or investor review.
Everything is built inside your own tenant, under your existing agreements and controls, so the data never moves to us. What we will not do is make the compliance determination for you — whether a given dataset can be reported on, and by whom, stays with your team and your counsel. We build to the rule you set, and we would much rather design that once at the start than retrofit it after a report has already been shared with sixty people.
One South Florida detail worth designing for: the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June through November, per the National Hurricane Center (opens in new tab), and a reporting stack that depends on one machine in one office is a reporting stack that goes dark in an evacuation. Where sources sit behind an on-premises ERP, forwarding system or property-accounting database, we document the on-premises data gateway (opens in new tab) configuration properly, discuss a clustered gateway where downtime actually costs something, and set scheduled refresh (opens in new tab) windows so the report is finished before the first Eastern-time meeting rather than halfway through it. Refresh failures get routed to a named person, not discovered live in a board call.
Nearly every report we are asked to rescue is slow and distrusted for the same reason: the wrong grain was chosen early, then papered over with DAX — the Power BI formula language — for a year. A shipment, a container leg, a lease, a folio line and a general-ledger posting are five different grains, and a model that blends them without a proper fact-and-dimension split produces numbers that are subtly wrong in ways nobody can trace. Add an undocumented currency translation and the trail disappears entirely. We design against Microsoft’s star schema guidance (opens in new tab), keep the rate policy in the model where it can be inspected, and it is a fair thing to ask any consultant you are evaluating about — us included.
Our data modeling and DAX work covers that craft in detail, and a Power BI health check is the usual starting point when the estate you inherited is the problem. When you are ready, send us the task and we will scope it.
Flex hours
Starter $2,500, Growth $4,600, or Power $8,000 — from $100/hour at the largest block. Senior-led, US-based, and the hours never expire.
Who it’s for
Operations and finance leads in Doral, Medley, Miami Springs and Hialeah moving cargo through PortMiami and Miami International Airport, who need margin per shipment computed once from the forwarding system and the ledger.
Asset managers and controllers across Brickell, Edgewater, Wynwood, Coral Gables and Aventura reporting NOI, occupancy and budget variance by property, with each outside investor limited to their own asset.
Owners and revenue managers on Miami Beach, in Brickell and out to the Keys who compare this season with last by segment and channel rather than by month, and want one set of definitions across properties.
Controllers consolidating Latin American entities into one reporting currency, and revenue-cycle teams across Miami-Dade and Broward tracking denials, days in A/R and throughput by payer and location.
Representative perspective
“Our agent settlements landed a month after the shipment, so lane profitability changed depending on who pulled the report and when. One model with the timing rule written down ended that argument.”Controller, freight forwarder
Representative perspective
“We needed NOI by property in one place, with each investor seeing only their own asset. The scope came back in writing with a price, and the refresh has finished before our Monday review since.”Asset manager, multifamily owner-operator
Or the consolidation that takes a week, or the model nobody trusts. Thirty minutes on Eastern time is usually enough to tell you what it takes — and you get that answer, and the price, whether or not you buy anything.
FAQ
No. We would rather say that plainly than imply a Brickell Avenue suite we do not rent. This is a US-based, remote-first practice: the work happens inside your own Power BI tenant over a screen share, booked on Eastern-time hours, and what a Miami office would cost goes into engineering hours instead.
Yes, and it is one of the more common reasons South Florida finance teams call. The modeling work is the exchange-rate policy: which rate applies to which account, whether a month uses an average or closing rate, and how restatements are handled. We write that policy into the model rather than into a workbook.
Five, mostly: freight forwarders, customs brokers and NVOCCs moving cargo through PortMiami and Miami International Airport; commercial and multifamily real estate owners and developers; hotels and resorts; cross-border finance and trade-finance teams; and provider groups and health systems across Miami-Dade and Broward.
It helps, because an Eastern-time day overlaps both sides. Colombia and Peru sit within an hour of Miami’s clock year-round, and Brazil and Argentina run one to two hours ahead, so a definition question raised in a Miami morning can still reach a regional controller the same day rather than the next one.
Because a single dashboard usually dies waiting for a number. Most consultancy pages ranking for this search lead with a quote request, which means a discovery call before you can even build a budget line. Our blocks are $2,500, $4,600 and $8,000, from $100 per hour, published before you call.
A focused first dashboard is typically three to five business days of build once access is in place, so most land well inside two weeks. Access and definitions set the date, not the modeling: waiting on a forwarding-system, property-accounting or PMS credential is the usual delay, so we ask for both on the first call.
You do, completely. Everything is built in your own tenant with documented measures, no proprietary layer and no licence pointing back at us. End the engagement tomorrow and your team keeps every model, report and document, along with the notes needed to maintain them without calling us.
