Margin, not just revenue
We bring COGS, ad spend, shipping, payment fees, and returns onto the same orders, so contribution margin by product, channel, and cohort is a measure in the model rather than a monthly spreadsheet exercise.
Shopify to Power BI, done for you
Skip the sync app. A senior US-based engineer models your orders, refunds, COGS, and ad spend into one view of net sales, repeat rate, cohort value, and real contribution margin — then keeps it refreshing. Prepaid hours, no contracts, most builds in 3–5 business days.
Representative dashboard — sample data
Ecommerce reporting that includes cost
Every store already knows its revenue. What a Shopify Power BI sales dashboard adds is the other half of the equation — landed COGS, ad spend, shipping, and returns modeled against the same orders, so you can see which products, channels, and customer cohorts actually make money. We build it for you, senior-led and US-based.
Shopify Analytics reports the store. It cannot see your supplier invoices, your Meta and Google spend, or your 3PL charges, so it stops short of contribution margin. Power BI joins those sources to the order line and keeps unlimited history, which is what makes cohort LTV and repeat-rate trends possible in the first place.
Reports we build from Shopify
Buy a block of prepaid Flex hours and, if you're unhappy within the first 4 hours, we refund you in full — no questions asked. Hours are deducted only for work you've reviewed and approved, there's no project minimum, and your banked hours never expire.
Why ecommerce teams call us
You send the request; a senior engineer models your orders, your costs, and your channels into one defensible number set.
We bring COGS, ad spend, shipping, payment fees, and returns onto the same orders, so contribution margin by product, channel, and cohort is a measure in the model rather than a monthly spreadsheet exercise.
First-order date, order sequence, and refund timing decide whether cohort LTV is meaningful or misleading. We model them explicitly so retention curves hold up when your finance team checks them.
There is no first-party Shopify connector in Power BI. We pull from Shopify's Admin API through Power Query, or stage the data first on high-volume stores, and the method is written into your scope estimate before we spend an hour.
Shopify, marketplaces, wholesale, and retail rolled to one order and product grain, so net sales and units agree everywhere instead of three teams quoting three numbers.
Buy a block of Flex hours, get a scope and hours estimate before any work, and hours deduct only for approved builds. No project minimum, no retainer, full refund inside the first 4 hours if you're unhappy.
We model orders, order lines, customers, products and variants, refunds, and discounts, then attach cost and spend data. On top sits the report set: sales and AOV trends, contribution margin, repeat purchase and cohort retention, product and SKU ranking, and inventory sell-through with weeks-of-cover.
The definitions matter more than the visuals. Whether shipping income counts in net sales, whether a discount is a marketing cost or a revenue reduction, whether a refund reduces the cohort it came from — those choices go into the model as documented measures so every report agrees. If you also sell through physical retail or wholesale, our Power BI for retail work covers the store and inventory side of the same model, and where the till itself is Square, our Square Power BI dashboard page covers the Orders, Payments and Reporting API split, item-variation grain and payout reconciliation behind those in-store takings.
Here is where the built-in store reporting stops and where the dashboard we build picks up — the same orders, joined to the costs that decide whether growth is profitable.
| Reporting need | Shopify Analytics limitation | Power BI dashboard version |
|---|---|---|
| Profitability | No landed COGS, ad spend, or 3PL cost | Contribution margin by product, channel, and cohort |
| Customer retention | Basic repeat-customer counts | Cohort LTV curves, order-sequence and win-back analysis |
| Multi-channel sales | Store-centric view | Shopify, marketplace, wholesale and retail on one grain |
| Inventory | Stock levels without demand context | Sell-through, weeks of cover, and stockout risk by SKU |
| History | Report windows and retention limits | Full order history retained in your own model |
| Finance alignment | Store numbers differ from the books | Net sales reconciled to your accounting system |
There is no first-party Shopify connector in Power BI. We authenticate to Shopify's Admin API from Power Query and pull orders, line items, customers, products, and refunds on a schedule. On high-volume stores we land the same data in a small staging database first, then model from there.
Power Query's Web connector (opens in new tab), which Microsoft documents, is the standard mechanism for API sources like Shopify, and it is what we use when volumes are modest. Above roughly a few hundred thousand orders, paging the API on every refresh becomes the bottleneck, so staging plus incremental refresh is the right call. Ad spend usually arrives through platform exports or an existing warehouse. We are not affiliated with Shopify or Microsoft; we use documented interfaces and write the chosen method into your scope estimate.
You buy prepaid Flex hours that never expire: Starter 20h at $125/hr ($2,500), Growth 40h at $115/hr ($4,600), or Power 80h at $100/hr ($8,000). A first sales and margin build typically fits inside one block. No project minimum, no retainer — refill only when you're ready.
Traditional Power BI firms charge $175–250/hr, set project minimums, want $10K+ to start, let unused hours expire, and don't begin for 4–6 weeks. Flex Support flips that: $100–125/hr, no minimums, banked hours that never expire, and a start this week. You buy a block, email your request, and we send a scope and hours estimate before any work — hours deduct only for approved builds. See how prepaid Flex hours work or our affordable Power BI consulting page for the full pricing comparison. Where payments are settled through Stripe alongside the store, the Stripe Power BI dashboard build reconciles both sides of the revenue picture. To put traffic and conversion rate next to orders, our GA4 Power BI marketing dashboard page covers the GA4 side of the join.
After you approve the scope estimate, most builds ship in 3–5 business days. We publish to your workspace and set scheduled refresh so sales, margin, and inventory views update on their own, within Microsoft's documented Power BI refresh limits, with incremental refresh on stores carrying long order histories.
Microsoft's published data refresh limits (opens in new tab) allow up to eight scheduled refreshes per day on Power BI Pro, with more on higher capacities. Most stores land on a morning refresh before the standup and one in the afternoon; intraday reporting is possible but rarely changes a decision. We monitor the refresh, fix breakages when Shopify or an ad platform changes something, and do it from your banked hours — the maintenance sync apps leave to you.
It fits DTC founders, ecommerce operators, and the finance leads who have to defend the numbers — teams with no in-house BI hire. If your books are in QuickBooks, our QuickBooks Power BI dashboards reconcile net sales to the ledger; if you have outgrown that, see NetSuite Power BI dashboards.
The ideal fit is a growing store where spreadsheet reporting has stopped scaling, a brand selling across several channels that needs one agreed number set, or a team whose existing Power BI report has broken and needs a senior fix from the same prepaid hours. If the storefront is self-hosted on WordPress instead, the same build on the other platform is our WooCommerce Power BI dashboard page, which covers the order-table and order-status side of that stack. If the store is only part of the picture, our Power BI dashboards for ecommerce brands combine it with marketplace and ad data for blended CAC, MER, and contribution margin per SKU. How it works
Tell us your channels, where COGS and ad spend live, and how you define net sales. We reply with a scope and hours estimate before any work begins — hours deduct only for builds you approve.
A senior US-based engineer pulls orders and refunds from the Admin API, attaches cost and spend data, builds the model and DAX, and reconciles net sales against your books — most focused builds in 3–5 business days.
We publish to your workspace, set scheduled or incremental refresh, and hand over the report and credentials. You own everything, and we keep the refresh healthy from your banked hours.
Representative perspective
We were scaling ad spend against revenue because that was the only number we could see daily. Putting COGS and shipping onto the same orders changed which products we promoted within a week.Founder, DTC apparel brand

FAQ
No. Power BI ships no first-party Shopify connector, which is why the search results are full of paid sync tools. We pull orders, line items, customers, products, and refunds from Shopify's Admin API through Power Query, or stage them in a small database first when store volume makes direct pulls slow.
Shopify Analytics reports what happened in the store. It does not know your landed COGS, ad spend across channels, or fulfilment costs, so it cannot show contribution margin. Power BI joins those sources, keeps full history, and lets you define profit the way your finance team defines it.
Yes. Multi-channel brands are the usual case. We model each channel to a shared order and product grain so net sales, units, and margin roll up consistently, then attribute ad spend at the campaign or channel level rather than pretending every platform agrees on attribution.
Explicitly, and it matters more than most dashboards admit. We separate gross sales, discounts, returns, shipping income, and taxes so net sales is a defensible number. Refunds are dated to the original order for cohort work and to the refund date for cash reporting.
We configure scheduled refresh within Microsoft's documented Power BI limits, which allow up to eight refreshes per day on Pro. Most stores settle on a morning refresh plus one mid-afternoon. Incremental refresh keeps large order histories fast, and we maintain the schedule from your banked hours.
